Identity of Austin woman found dead near her home Saturday morning released
The identity of an Austin woman found dead Saturday morning near her home has been released.
Austin Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that 18-year old Erica Manzano was found lying on the sidewalk deceased next to her house on the 800 block of 8th Avenue Southwest. McKichan also identified a male arrested at the scene as 20-year old Abraham Dario Cervantes-Paz of Austin. Cervantes-Paz was on the roof of the residence when police and detectives arrived on the scene Saturday morning. He attempted to flee, but was caught and arrested for a probation violation on June charges of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony for terroristic threats and a misdemeanor for domestic assault, for which he was on pretrial release.
Cervantes-Paz is currently being held at the Mower County jail for the probation violation. While Cervantes-Paz was known to Manzano, Chief McKichan stressed that he is not being held in connection to Manzano’s death.
A cause of death in the case has yet to be determined, and the case is still under investigation.
