Constitutional amendment introduced at State Capitol to create dedicated fund for long-term care for Minnesota’s most vulnerable citizens

Minnesota Senator Kent Eken, a DFL’er from Twin Valley has introduced a constitutional amendment during the current legislative session that would create a dedicated fund for long-term care for Minnesota’s most vulnerable citizens, including seniors and those with disabilities.  Eken stated to KAUS News that the issue should be in the constitution because it is time to make them a priority…

The amendment would close a tax loophole by levying a tax on individuals with income not taxed for Social Security purposes to fund long-term care services, with dedicating revenues providing for the commissioner of revenue and the commissioner of human services to propose implementing legislation.  If the bill is approved, the constitutional amendment question would come before voters in the state in the 2022 general election.
