BREAKING-MSHSL Board of Directors approves moving volleyball back to the fall of 2020
On a vote of 14-4, the MSHSL Board of Directors moved to start volleyball on September 28th, with 10 days of pre-season practice. The first competition will take place on October 8th with an 11-week season and 14 dual competitons.
76% of schools that responded to a MSHSL survey indicated that they would want to play volleyball in the fall rather than next spring. Current COVID-19 standards do not allow spectators in school facilities for indoor events such as swimming and diving, but there was no word as to whether spectators will be allowed to attend. There was no word as to whether there will be any post-season action.
The vote was conducted during a highly anticipated special meeting of the MSHSL Board of Directors taking place Monday that had two main items of business on the agenda, including reconsidering the placement of fall activities seasons and post-season competition for fall activities. The Board of Directors approved moving football and volleyball from the fall of 2020 to the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic at a meeting in August.
