Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball routs GMLOK 19-6 Tuesday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team kicked off a two-game road trip in Spring Valley Tuesday versus the Bulldogs of GMLOK in a non-conference matchup, and it was the Blosssoms breaking things open with a five-run top of the fourth and an eight-run top of the sixth on their way to a 19-6 win.

The Blossoms scored early and often in Tuesday’s contest as they led 6-0 with three in the first and three in the second, but the Bulldogs came back with two in their half of the second inning and two more in the third to cut the Blooming Prairie lead to 6-4.  BP gained a comfortable lead back in the top of the fourth as they plated five runs for an 11-4 lead, and after two runs for GMLOK in the bottom of the fourth for an 11-6 Blossoms lead, Blooming Prairie broke the game wide open by pushing eight runs across the plate for the 19-6 final.

Blooming Prairie’s offense totaled 13 hits for the game, led by third baseman Shawntee Snyder, who had a monster game with three hits, including a home run and a double in five official trips to the plate with six RBI’s and two runs scored, leadoff hitter Macy Lembke was 3 for 4 with four runs scored, junior right fielder Anna Haberman was 2 for 3 with a double, three RBI’s and two runs scored, Rachel Winzenburg went 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and three runs scored, centerfielder Ella Smith was 1 for 4 with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored, and Lily Schammel and Layla Lembke were both 1 for 3 for BP, with Lembke scoring two runs and Schammel one, and Lexi Steckelberg scored two runs, plus Haven Carlson and Madelaine Stoen each scored one run apiece in the win.

Carlson got the starting nod in the circle for the Blossoms and gave up the six Bulldog runs, two earned, on seven hits, striking out 12 and walking three.

With the win, Blooming Prairie is 5-6 overall on the season, and the Blossoms return to action Thursday in Dodge Center versus Triton, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
