Austin Bruins to play benefit games for Wyatt Hamlin
The Austin Bruins will be playing a pair of benefit games for Wyatt Hamlin, who was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 4th St. SW in Austin on the evening of Friday, July 30th.
The games will be intra-squad scrimmages to be played at Riverside Arena at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8th and Wednesday, August 9th. A $5 minimum donation will be taken at the door, with the proceeds going towards Hamlin’s recovery.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, 23-year old Jeffer Lorenzo of Austin has been charged with with felonies for criminal vehicular operation, great bodily harm, under the influence of alcohol, and criminal vehicular operation, great bodily harm, driver who causes a collision leaves the scene, plus Lorenzo was also charged with gross misdemeanors for criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, under the influence of alcohol, criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, leave the scene of an accident and for reckless driving, drives consciously disregarding a substantial or unjustifiable risk, and Lorenzo was also charged with a misdemeanor for 4th degree DWI, operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
An incident report from Austin Police stated that Hamlin was unresponsive due to injuries sustained in the crash and he was treated and transported by Mayo 1 to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, where he continues to undergo treatment for serious injuries.
