The third annual Gift of Warmth will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow Saturday, December 7th at the corner of 4th Street and 9th Place Southwest in Austin, just atop Skinners Hill.

The drive is an attempt to get gently-used scarves, gloves, mittens and hats to those that need them, and Deb Hulet, a nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin talked to KAUS about why she first started the program…

Primary Care at MCHS in Austin got involved in the Gift of Warmth donation drive last year, but Hulet went on to state that many other businesses around the Austin area and other areas of MCHS in Austin and the clinic have also gotten involved this year…

The items, after being collected are then hung from the fence above Skinners Hill, where those that need them can simply come by and pick up what they need, free of charge.

Last year, over 1,000 items were collected and within a short period of time they were all gone. Hulet stated that this year, the total will climb to over 2,000 items collected, and she added that 200 items were collected in the group’s first year.
