Stewartville man sentenced to prison time on felony DWI charges in Mower County District Court
A Stewartville man facing a felony DWI charge in Mower County District Court after a traffic stop on March 12th, 2020 has been sentenced to prison time.
In an amended court decision Friday, 38-year old Mark Anthony Sanford was sentenced to 36 months, or three years in prison on a felony charge of DWI, operate a motor vehicle with the body containing any amount of Schedule I or II drugs, not marijuana. Sanford was first convicted on the charge on October 8th, 2020 after pleading guilty the same day, and he was also convicted and sentenced Friday to 46 months in prison, plus $543 in restitution for a felony charge of DWI, operate a motor vehicle with the body containing any amount of Schedule I or II drugs, metabolite, not cannabis or hemp stemming from a traffic stop in Mower County on October 13th. Sanford pleaded guilty to the charge on Friday, and felony charges for 3rd degree drugs, possess 10 or more grams of a narcotic drug other than heroin or fentanyl, and also for theft, taking and driving a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, plus a gross misdemeanor charge for driving after cancellation, inimical to public safety in the case were all dismissed with Sanford’s guilty plea.
Judge Jeffery Kritzer determined that Sanford will be allowed to serve the two prison sentences concurrently.
