Austin School Board approves district’s proposed capital budget for 2018-2019 school year

The Austin School Board approved the proposed capital budget for the district for the 2018-2019 school year at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening at the Austin City Council chambers.  Mark Stotts, Executive Director of Finance and Operations for the district stated to the board that capital revenues are expected to be $1.84 million, with expenditures at approximately $1.992 million for a deficit budget of approximately $154,000.  He went on to state that the projected fund balance for June 30th, 2019 will be $301,568.... Southland School Board to again discuss possible closure of Rose Creek Elementary School

Due to such factors as declining enrollment, rising costs and insufficient funding from the State of Minnesota, the Southland School Board is again looking to possibly close the elementary school in Rose Creek.  KAUS News spoke with Jeff Sampson, the Superintendent of the Southland and LeRoy/Ostrander School Districts who stated that the board directed him to look into the legal process of closing the school if the board chooses to do so, and to see if there would be room for the students at the district’s facility in Adams….... Representatives from City of Austin and State of Minnesota hold meeting with Bellisio Foods concerning closure of Austin plant

Representatives from the City of Austin, the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development met late last week with local representatives from Bellisio Foods concerning the company’s announcement that they will be closing their plant in Austin in early April, leaving approximately 105 employees without a job.  In a news release, company officials said the company was consolidating operations in other facilities in Vernon, California and Jackson, Ohio to improve efficiencies and to better serve its customers.  KAUS News spoke with Austin City Administrator Craig Clark, who stated that there was another main reason announced by Bellisio representatives at the meeting as to why the company is shutting down its operation in Austin…...
