Austin Packers girls hockey team falls 6-1 in regular season finale to Winona Saturday
The Austin Packers girls hockey team wound up the 2023-2024 regular season at home versus the Winona Winhawks Saturday, and it was the Winhawks coming out on top by a score of 6-1.
The Packers finish the regular season with a record of 1-21-1, and they will be the No. 8 seed in the Section 1AA girls hockey playoffs. The Packers will open the section tournament in Northfield versus the Raiders, the No. 5 team in the state in Class AA and the No. 1 seed on Wednesday, with puck drop at 7 p.m. The winner of the Austin/Northfield game will move on to play either No. 4 seed Mankato East or No. 5 seed Owatonna, as those two teams will play at All Seasons Arena in Mankato at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
The other half of the 1AA bracket will feature No. 2 seeded Lakeville South playing host to seventh-seeded Rochester Century/John Marshall Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., with the winner taking on either No. 3 Farmington or No. 6 seed Rochester Mayo, as those two teams will meet in Farmington at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. The quarterfinal winners will play Saturday, February 10th at 7:00 p.m., with the Section 1AA final to be played at the Steele County Four Seasons Arena in Owatonna on Thursday, February 15th at 7:30 p.m. that evening.
