Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms cross-country teams compete at 9-team Hayfield Invitational
The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms cross-country teams competed in the 9-team Hayfield Invitational Tuesday afternoon, and in the boys team results, the Blossoms finished fourth with 114 points. Pine Island snagged first place with 47 team points, followed by Kingsland with 68 points, GMLOS took third with 107 points followed by Blooming Prairie and then Plainview-Elgin-Millville in fifth at 115 points. Goodhue was sixth with 145 points, followed by Pacelli in seventh with 151 points, the host Vikings were eighth with 161 points and WEM/JWP took ninth with 227 points.
Senior Hosea Baker ran the best time for the Blossoms as he took 12th overall with a final time of 19:31.75, senior Jesse Cardenas was 20th with a time of 20:19.18, junior Tyler Forstek was right behin Cardenas in 21st with a time of 20:22.94, sophomore Will Sunde, who was running in his first cross-country meet was 34th overall with a time of 21:37.21 and senior Elliot Swenson was 38th with a final time of 21:40.39.
In the girls team competition, Blooming Prairie was eighth with 173 points. Plainview-Elgin-Millville took the top spot for the girls with 72 team points, Goodhue was second with 82 points, Pine Island took third with 90 points, Hayfield came in fourth with 108 team points, the Pacelli Shamrocks were fifth with 116 points, WEM/JWP followed in sixth with 125 points, GMLOS took seventh with 142 points, followed by the Awesome Blossoms in eighth and Kingsland in ninth with 211 team points.
Individually for Blooming Prairie, eighth-grader Gloria Hernandez ran the best time for the Blossoms as she took 8th overall with a time of 23:31.22, senior Chloe McCarthy finished 17th with a time of 24:54.41, junior Anna Haberman, who along with teammates Rachel Winzenburg and Abi Thoreson are all in their first year of cross-country were 46th, 48th and 57th overall, with Haberman finishing with a time of 29:08.61, Winzenburg at 29:51.91 and Thoreson finishing with a time of 36:08.77.
