Austin Packers volleyball team opens 2023 season with 3-0 sweep of Hastings
The Austin Packers volleyball team opened their 2023 season in Hastings versus the Raiders in a non-conference matchup, and it was the Packers earning a 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-12.
Coach Jeremy Struck noted that Austin’s serving scheme kept the Raiders off balance throughout the match, and the Packers featured a balanced attack with seven of nine starters scoring kills on the evening, led by freshman right-side Nora Sand, who put down six in the three-set sweep.  Austin was also led by Katherine Crouch, who tallied five kills, two set assists, one ace and seven digs defensively, Isabella Bolster also racked up five kills, plus she added three digs, Quinn Osgood chipped in four kills, one assist, one ace serve and 15 digs to lead the club in that category, Aggie McKichan put up four kills and two digs, Ava Denzer and Alia Retterath each put down three kills, with Denzer adding one dig defensively, and Retterath put up nine set assists, plus she added five digs and three ace serves to lead the Packers in that category, Haleigh Holman led Austin in set assists with 15, plus she chipped in four digs, and Kristen Nielsen contributed two set assists, 11 digs defensively and two ace serves.
Austin will be back in action this weekend at the Rochester Century Invite where they will face off against Rochester Century, Waseca, and Chatfield in pool play, with the action scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
