Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team rolls to 98-57 win over Tri-City United in home and season opener Tuesday

The Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team opened their 2023 season versus Tri-City United at Bud Higgins Pool at Ellis Middle School Tuesday evening, and it was the Packers rolling to a 98-57 season-opening win.

High finishers for the Packers included the team’s 200 medley relay team of Gracie Greenman, Addison Tobak, Abbie Boysen and Alivia Hemry, who took first with a time of 2:03.20, and Leah Pischke, Jaycie Pollak and Gracelyn Merten-Johnson went 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:22.96, 2:28.54 and 2:29.48.  Gracie Greenman and Addison Tobak finished 1-2 in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:29.94 and 2:43.28, and in the 50 freestyle, Abbie Boysen took second with a time of 26.83, and Alivia Hemry was third with a time of 27.04 seconds.

In the 1-meter diving competition, Reese Norton and Alayna Kennedy took first and second, with Norton finishing with a final score of 220.35 points, and Kennedy finished with 205.90 points.  In the 100 butterfly, Sydney Tobak finished second for the Packers with a time of 1:12.88, and Madison Tauger took third with a final time of 1:17.56, while Abbie Boysen, Alivia Hemry and Anna Kossman went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle with times of 58.67, 1:00.99 and 1:02.51.  Austin also swept the top three spots in the 500 freestyle with Leah Pischke taking first with a final time of 6:36.02, Gracelyn Merten-Johnson was second with a time of 7:00.42 and Madellane Hicks took third with a time of 7:02.82.

Austin’s 200 freestyle relay team of Anna Kossman, Addison Tobak, Sydney Tobak and Alivia Hemry finished first Tuesday evening with a time of 1:52.40, Gracie Greenman and Kossman finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:05.11 and 1:15.66, respectively, Addison Tobak and Anita Rao took second and third in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:24.01 and 1:26.39, and Austin’s 400 freestyle relay team of Abbie Boysen, Leah Pischke, Anna Kossman and Gracie Greenman took first with a final time of 4:12.12.

The Packers return to action Thursday night in Owatonna versus the Huskies, with the action scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
