An Eyota man who was allegedly found with .72 grams of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe in a vehicle he was a passenger in on the afternoon of December 30th, 2019 in a school zone in the 1500 block of 6th Street Southeast in Austin has pleaded not guilty to a drug possession charge in Mower County District Court.

21-year old Alexander Joseph Haugen pleaded not guilty Thursday to a felony charge of third-degree drugs, possession of methamphetamine in a school zone.  Haugen’s next appearance in Mower County District Court is scheduled for June 12th. 22-year old Drew Michael Rosenthal of Austin, who was the driver of the vehicle pleaded not guilty Thursday to a felony charge of third-degree drugs, possession of methamphetamine in a school zone.  Rosenthal, who is on probation for a misdemeanor DWI conviction, was placed on a 72-hour probation hold after being arrested. While being arrested, Rosenthal told the officer there was a small amount of methamphetamine in his hat, and the officer recovered 0.36 grams of methamphetamine from Rosenthal’s hat.

A police measurement determined the vehicle was approximately 260-275 feet from Woodson Kindergarten Center.

Rosenthal’s next appearance in Mower County District Court is scheduled for June 12th.
