Kaden Thomas drilled seven three-pointers, including five in the first half to finish with 26 points as the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms, the No. 1 seed in the Section 1A boys’ basketball tournament downed the seventh-seeded Southland Rebels 72-50 Wednesday night at the Mayo Civic Arena in Rochester.

Blooming Prairie never trailed in the game, and Thomas’ fifth 3-pointer boosted the Blossom’s lead to 18 at 29-11 with 5:30 to play in the first half.  Blooming Prairie led 35-19 at the end of the first half, and Gabe Hagen, the leading scorer for the Blossoms came alive in the second half as he scored 12 of his 17 points in the second stanza to help BP to the win.

Besides Thomas and Hagen, who also added nine rebounds and seven assists, Zach Archer swished two three-pointers in the first half on his way to 12 points, Parker Vaith added six points, Zach Weber tallied five points, Drew Kittleson added four points and Isaac Ille scored two points.

For Southland, who winds up the season with a record of 10-15, Harrison Hanna led the way in scoring with 11 points, Dan Boe was also in double figures with 10 points, Nick, Boe, Reece Tapp and Eli Wolff each added eight points apiece Noah Lamp tallied three points and Carter Schmitz scored two points.
