Summer of 2023 to mark 28th year of hanging flower baskets in Austin

The summer of 2023 will be the 28th year of hanging flower baskets in Austin, as the city of Austin, Hormel Foods and over 110 businesses and individuals regularly donate to the beautification project.  KAUS spoke with former Austin Mayor Bonnie Rietz, a member of the flower basket committee who stated that the flowers add to the ambiance of downtown when tourists travel there to visit the many stores and restaurants…

Rietz went on to state that the flower baskets will be placed in additional areas in Austin next summer, including near Hormel Foods’ corporate headquarters, and the Hormel Institute…

Rietz went on to give details as to how you can donate to the program, and she added that several people give a flower basket yearly to someone else as a holiday gift….

The committee is asking that donations be given by the middle of January, and you can send your tax-deductible check made out to the city of Austin with “Flowers 2023” written on the memo line to Tom Dankert at City Hall, 500 4th Avenue NE.
