Spring sports season for Austin High School scheduled to start April 4th

With the winter sports season wrapping up with the Minnesota State Boys Basketball Tournament this past weekend, spring sports for area schools are just around the corner, and for the Austin Packers, weather and grounds permitting, the baseball team will kick things off with a Big 9 Conference matchup with Mankato East at Dick Seltz Field at Riverland Community College on Tuesday, April 4th, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. that day.  The Packers are then scheduled to play a doubleheader at Red Wing on Saturday, April 8th, and will then travel to Owatonna to play the Huskies the following Tuesday, April 11th before returning home for a three-game homestand versus Winona Saturday, April 15th, Rochester Mayo Tuesday, April 18th and Mankato West, the No. 2 team in the state in the pre-season Class AAA poll on Thursday, April 20th.

The Austin Packers softball team will open the 2023 season at Winona on Thursday, April 6th versus the Winhawks, the defending Section 1AAA champions from 2022, Class AAA runners-up to Big 9 Conference rival Mankato West and the pre-season No. 1 team in the state in Class AAA  for 2023.  The Packers are then scheduled to host Red Wing for a doubleheader at Todd Park for their home opener on Saturday, April 8th at noon, followed by another home game versus Owatonna on Tuesday, April 11th at 5 p.m.

Both the Austin Packers boys and girls track and field teams will also open their 2023 campaigns on Thursday, April 6th with a meet hosted by Albert Lea at the Hammer Athletic Complex, followed by competing in a 10-team invitational in Faribault on Tuesday, April 11th before hosting their first home meet of the season at the Wescott Athletic Complex on Friday, April 21st at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.  The meet will also include Albert Lea, Mankato East, Rochester Century, Rochester John Marshall, Rochester Mayo and Stewartville.

The Austin Packers golf teams will both open their seasons against Winona on Monday, April 10th, with the boys hosting the Winhawks at the Austin Country Club that afternoon at 2:30 p.m., and the girls traveling to Winona to play the Winhawks at The Bridges Golf Course also at 2:30 p.m. that day.  Both Packers golf teams will then play at an invitational hosted by Hayfield at the Oaks Golf Club on Saturday, April 15th, and the girls will then play their home opener at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17th versus Red Wing at the Austin Country Club, while the boys will play in a 16-team invitational that same day hosted by Byron at Somerby Golf Club, with tee-off at 11 a.m.

The Austin Packers boys tennis team will open the 2023 season at home on Tuesday, April 11th versus the Winona Winhawks, with the action starting at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon at the Wescott Athletic Complex Tennis Courts.  The Packers will then hit the road for a pair of Big 9 Conference matchups at Rochester John Marshall on Saturday, April 15th, and at Mankato West on Tuesday, April 18th before returning home for a three-match homestand versus Mankato East on Thursday, April 20th, a Big 9 Conference triangular with Faribault and Owatonna on Saturday, April 22nd, and a non-conference matchup with Farmington on Monday, April 24th.
