Southland Rebels girls basketball team falls to Spring Grove 67-40 in Section 1A tournament

In a game you heard on AM 1480 KAUS, the Southland Rebels girls basketball team, the No. 13 seed in the Section 1A tournament traveled to Spring Grove Thursday night to take on the Lions, the No. 4 seed and champions of the East Division of the Southeast Conference in a second round matchup, and it was the Lions draining eight of their 11 3-point field goals in the second half, plus utilizing a press that helped to force 23 Rebel turnovers in a 67-40 win.

Breeley Galle led Southland in scoring as she drilled three 3-pointers on her way to 14 points, Emma Lewison was also in double figures with 10 points, Avery Stroup, Katelyn McCabe and Clara Timm all totaled four points apiece, Jaida Sorenson drained a 3-pointer in the first half for three points, Shannon Kiefer scored two points, and Grace Krebsbach tallied one point.

With the loss, Southland’s season comes to an end with a record of 8-18, while Spring Grove is now 22-5.  The Lions will play Fillmore Central in the Section 1A quarterfinals at the Mayo Civic Center Auditorium Monday evening at 7:30 p.m., as the Falcons, the No. 5 seed downed No. 12 seed Kenyon-Wanamingo 65-50 Thursday.
