Several individuals from Austin Packers boys’ and girls’ track and field teams qualify for State Class AA Track Meet

Several individuals with the Austin Packers boys and girls track and field teams were able to qualify for the State Class AA Track and Field Meet during Day 2 of the Section 1AA track and field meet at Lakeville South High School Saturday.

In the boys’ competition, Austin’s 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kaden Murley, Soren Villafane, Nicholas Asmus and A’Triel Terry took first to qualify for the state meet with a final time of 3:29.62, and the Packers 4 x 100 meter relay team of Thomas Fritz, Joseph Walker, Joseph Ewing and A’Triel Terry also qualified for state by taking second with a time of 44.09 seconds.  Terry will also be competing at the state meet for Austin in the high jump as he cleared 6-03.00 for first place, and Walker will be competing in the long jump at state for Austin by taking first Saturday with a jump of 21-9.25.  Walker also finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.78, and Terry was third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.57.  Other athletes who competed at the section meet for the Austin boys included Brenan Winkels, who was sixth in the 110 hurdles with a final time of 17.49 seconds, Soren Villafane was eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.28, Isaiah Cabeen finished eighth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.38, Kaden Murley placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.45 seconds, Joseph Garry took ninth in the 1600 meter run with a final time of 4:52.83, Matthew Grush cleared 11 feet to take fourth in the pole vault competition, the Packers 4 x 200 meter relay team of Thomas Fritz, Joseph Walker, Joseph Ewing and A’Triel Terry were eighth Saturday with a time of 1:36.06 and the 4 x 800 relay team of Joseph Garry, Thomas Herrick, Kyler Mayer and Nicholas Asmus finished third with a time of 8:31.35.

In the girls’ competition, Olivia Walsh will be competing at the state meet in both the high jump, where she cleared 5-01.00 to take second place, and also in the triple jump, where she took first for Austin with a jump of 35-7.50.  Walsh also narrowly missed competing at state in the 200 meter dash, where she took third with a time of 26.91 seconds, and other high finishers for the Packers at the section meet included Sara Wangen, who took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13 seconds, and she also cleared 9 feet to take sixth in the pole vault.  Marissa Shute took third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:39.65, and teammate Nadia Vaughn was right behind in fourth with a time of 5:41.35, Laura Bekaert finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 98-09, and she also took sixth in the shot put with an effort of 33-08.75.

The State Class AA Track and Field Meet will be held this Thursday through Saturday, June 9th-11th at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
