Rural Brownsdale man injured in ATV accident Tuesday afternoon

A rural Brownsdale man was transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester after an ATV accident on his property near Brownsdale Tuesday afternoon.

Mower County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Brownsdale First Responders, Mayo Ambulance and Mayo One were dispatched to a residence at 24746 600th Avenue just south of Brownsdale at approximately 1:07 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on a report of a 72-year old male who had been found outside his residence unconscious and laying on the ground near an overturned ATV.  Mower County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mark May reported that responding agencies were advised that the person, later identified as 72-year old Duane Douglas Anderson was breathing, but was otherwise unresponsive.

May stated that the accident was not witnessed, but it was believed that Anderson was attempting to load his ATV onto the back of a trailer, which was connected to a pickup truck.  He went on to state that it appeared that Anderson may have accelerated rapidly while attempting to drive the ATV onto the trailer, with the vehicle then driving onto the trailer and striking the trailer’s “headache rack” and then striking the tailgate of the pickup truck, leaving a large dent.  May indicated that the ATV then flipped off the trailer and overturned.

Anderson was transported by Mayo One to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, and May stated that Anderson had not regained consciousness by the time he was transported.
