Riverland men’s basketball team pulls away in second half to defeat Ridgewater 80-62 Saturday

The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team, the No. 1 team in the latest NJCAA rankings took to the road Saturday to face Ridgewater College, and it was the Blue Devils pulling away in the second half to earn their 11th win a row by a score of 80-62.

Lajarrion Sparks led 11 Blue Devils who broke into the scoring column Saturday with 25 points, plus he added four rebounds, two assists and a steal, Malik Cooper tallied 10 points of the Riverland bench, Jock Boomer chipped in eight points, a team-high 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot, Dominik Bangu scored seven points, Ethan Clavero and Joe Burgos each added six points, Cleveland Bedgood and Trayvon Smith each added five points, Jacob Lotz chipped in four points and Ryan Burgess and Jamari Magee each scored two points for the Blue Devils, who outscored the Warriors 39-24 in the second half after leading 41-38 at the half.

Riverland is now 11-0 in MCAC South Division play and 23-1 overall on the season, and they return to action at home Wednesday evening versus Western Technical College, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
