The Mower County Auditor-Treasurer’s office reminds taxpayers that second half real estate (property) taxes are due today Tuesday, October 15.  Payments can be made by mail, by phone, or in person at the Auditor-Treasurer’s office located in the Mower County Government Center at 201 First Street NE in Austin.  Office hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.

Payment methods accepted include:  cash, check, credit card, or e-check.  A 2.5% processing fee applies for credit card payments and a $1.50 fee applies for e-check payments.

Tax payments can be made by phone during regular business office hours of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday, by calling 507-437-9535 or 507-437-9456.  Mower County Auditor/Treasurer Scott Felten stated that property tax statements were mailed out in March and no reminders are sent out. If you do not recall receiving a tax statement, please call the Auditor-Treasurer’s office at 507-437-9456 to verify your current address is on file.  Per Minnesota state statute, property taxes are due regardless of whether you received a property tax statement or not.

By Minnesota state statute, a penalty will be added on October 16 if payment is not made timely.  Tax payments postmarked on or before October 15 will be accepted as timely paid.

Another reminder for taxpayers who missed the May 15 first half tax payment due date, please make payment as soon as possible to minimize penalties for late payment. An additional penalty will be added November 1, 2019.

Felten went on to state that property owners have until Friday, November 15 to pay second half Agricultural real estate taxes and second half Mobile Home property taxes.
