One person killed, another seriously injured in one-vehicle accident on Interstate 90 near St. Charles Tuesday evening

One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a one-vehicle, rollover-type accident on Interstate 90 near the city of St. Charles Tuesday evening.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2004 Toyota 4Runner being driven by 40-year old Sean Robert Payne of Chicago, Illinois was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 at approximately 6:25 p.m. Tuesday evening when his vehicle left the road at milepost 234 and rolled several times.

A passenger in Payne’s vehicle, 51-year old Anastasia Payne of Chicago, Illinois was killed in the accident, while Sean Payne sustained life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment.  

The State Patrol reported that both parties involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, and they added that it was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.  The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles, Police, Fire and Ambulance, and Lewiston Ambulance all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Tuesday evening.
