No serious injuries were reported in a collision between a car and a school bus in northwest Austin early Monday morning.

Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that the accident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of 4th Ave NW and 2nd St. NW.  A preliminary investigation indicated that a car traveling eastbound on 4th Avenue Northwest did not have enough time to avoid a collision with the school bus, which was southbound on 2nd Street Northwest and was attempting to cross the partially controlled intersection with the bus having a stop sign but the car not having one. The bus driver indicated to authorities that he stopped for the sign, and the car’s driver indicated that he took evasive action prior to the crash. Chief McKichan stated that the driver of the bus was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

McKichan added that there were no serious injuries reported, nor was there anyone transported from the scene via ambulance, and he indicated that there were three students, two adult student aids and one driver on the bus, while the car had one occupant.
