A new trial date has been scheduled in Mower County District Court for a Lansing man involved in a two-vehicle accident near Austin in May of 2019 that took the life of an Austin man.

Stewart

32-year old Christopher Robert Stewart has pleaded not guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, two counts of DWI, driving after revocation, and 5th degree drug possession.

Authorities reported that Stewart crashed into a pickup truck driven by 89-year old William Regner, of Austin at the intersection of Mower County Roads 28 and 29 on May 9, 2019. Regner was killed in the accident, and investigators reported that they found marijuana in Stewart’s vehicle, and that a lab test showed amphetamine, methamphetamine, and THC in Stewart’s blood at the time of the crash.

Stewart had been scheduled to stand trial in March, but the trial was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. His trial is now set to begin in Mower County District Court on September 14.
