The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced that effective immediately all scheduled 2019-20 NAHL regular season games have been paused until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus and outbreak.
Statement from NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld:
“This is an unprecedented time and situation, so first and foremost we want to be sure we are doing what is best for our players, teams, fans, and officials. In the past 24 hours, it became clear that we needed to follow a path that was consistent with what has transpired in the hockey world, particularly with our partners at USA Hockey, the NCAA, the NHL, and USHL.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation daily with everyone involved and we understand that given the current landscape, things could change at any moment. Our number one goal is to resume play as soon as possible, but only when we feel it is safe for all of the parties involved. The NAHL Board of Governors will reconvene on a conference call on Friday to discuss further action.”
“While public safety remains at the forefront and takes precedent in this situation, we are also mindful of the opportunity that will hopefully be presented to all of our athletes during these important events in the near future.”
For the Bruins, the pause will not only affect the games scheduled at Riverside Arena on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14, but the team has also announced a pause on the team’s annual year-end banquet originally scheduled for Sunday, March 15 and the Torge’s Takeover event scheduled at Torge’s Live Sports Bar and Grill on Monday, March 16.
“Our first priority is the safety and wellness of our players and fans,” said Bruins co-owner Mike Cooper. “We hope to get the season resumed as fast as possible but without compromising on safety.”
The Austin Bruins will be offering exchanges on tickets already purchased, as well as season tickets for the affected games, once the season resumes. Fans will be able to trade the unused ticket for any game of their choice.
