The next step in filling the Mower County District 1 County Commissioner vacancy was taken Tuesday with a special primary election that was held for voters in the townships of Lansing, Red Rock, Udolpho and Waltham, and also in the cities of Brownsdale, Mapleview, Waltham and the 1st Ward, 1st Precinct of the City of Austin.

The vacancy occurred when Commissioner Tim Gabrielson passed away on November 10th, 2020, and the county board then approved holding a special election to fill the vacancy on November 24th.  Seven candidates were in the mix for the office, so a special primary election was necessary to narrow the field down to two candidates, who would then advance to the special general election on Tuesday, April 13th.

Moving on to the special general election will be John Mueller, who received 245 votes and Tim Duren, who received 167 votes in yesterday’s special primary election.  Other vote totals included Mark Lang with 112 votes, Laura Helle with 64 votes, Michael Langstaff with 35 votes, Ric Berg received 15 votes and Arnie Johnson garnered 12 votes, plus there were three other votes cast for a total of 653 votes in the eight precincts involved in Tuesday’s special primary election.
