Authorities have released the names of the two people killed Wednesday evening in a head-on collision between a car and a semi on U.S. Highway 14 in Dodge County.

The accident occurred just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening between 120th and 150th Avenue near Claremont. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a westbound semi hauling fertilizer product collided head-on with an eastbound 2015 Ford Fusion that had drifted into the westbound lane. Authorities reported that the semi caught on fire and was being consumed by flames when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Two people in the car, 57-year old Jay Wayne Logan of New Richland and 52-year old Elizabeth Ann Logan of New Richland were killed in the impact. The semi driver, 75-year old Merrit Lyle Davis of Cleveland was taken to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. 

The State Patrol reported that all three parties involved in the accident were wearing their seat belts, and they added that alcohol was not a factor.  Fire Departments from Claremont and Dodge Center, Dodge Center Ambulance, Sheriff’s Departments from Steele and Dodge Counties and the Kasson Police Department all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene.
