The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is reminding area residents of yet another email scam that has been reported to their office.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik reported that a resident of Brownsdale reported being the victim of an email scam on Monday.  Sheriff Sandvik stated that the victim was contacted via email by someone claiming to live in Buganda.  The victim was told that if they provided the scammer with their personal information and $375 to purchase insurance, they then would have $5.5 million transferred into their bank account.

Sandvik indicated that the victim did send the money and shared personal information with the scammer.  He added that people are urged to never share personal information over email or the phone with people who contact them unsolicited.
