The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a farmer on the eastern end of the county reported Sunday that one of his cattle had been located deceased after being shot.

Deputies responded to the call at approximately noon on Sunday from a field in the 27000 block of Mower/Fillmore Rd.  The farmer stated to authorities that the cow had been shot and partially field dressed while grazing in the field. The back straps, and both hind quarters had been removed from the cow prior to the discovery. The farmer went on to state that the five-year old Black Simmental Angus cow was pregnant at the time and the calf did not survive. The loss was valued at $1,700.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik reported that anyone with any information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Mower County Sheriff’s Office at 437-9400 option #1 and ask to speak with an investigator.
