Mower County Sheriff’s Deputy facing misconduct and assault charges requests speedy trial

A Mower County Sheriff’s deputy facing misconduct and assault charges made a demand for a speedy trial Friday morning in Mower County District Court. 

According to court records, 35-year old Ryan Matthew Chrz, is charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor misconduct by a public officer and two counts of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.   

A trial was scheduled for mid-October but was continued Friday morning until mid-November. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 9 a.m., with a jury trial scheduled for Nov. 16.

Chrz allegedly punched and pepper sprayed a juvenile male on Jan. 16, 2019, during the course of an arrest of the juvenile, whose age was not listed in court records.
