Mower County in top five for corn for grain production and average yield for 2022

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service recently reported that Renville County was the highest–ranking county for corn for grain production in Minnesota for 2022 with 52.9 million bushels produced. Martin at 45.7 million, Redwood at 44.7 million, Mower at 43.5 million and Faribault at 42.8 million rounded out the top five counties with the highest production. 

Mower County saw 199,600 acres harvested for corn in 2022, with an average yield of 218 bushels per acre, which put the county in the top five in the state for average yield per acre, along with Martin, which led all counties in Minnesota with an average yield of 224.9 bushels per acre for corn in 2022, followed by Dodge at 221.5, Blue Earth at 221.5, then Mower County followed by Steele at 217.3 bushels per acre rounded out the top five.  Twenty-three counties in Minnesota surpassed the 200 bushel per acre mark for corn in 2022.   

Counties with production of more than 35 million bushels were Jackson, Freeborn, Blue Earth, Nobles, and Cottonwood.
