The Mower County Board of Commissioners approved a special election at their Tuesday meeting to be held to fill the vacancy on the board created by the unexpected passing of Commissioner Tim Gabrielson on November 10th.  Commissioner Gabrielson was reelected on November 3rd to another four-year term to represent District 1, with the term set to begin on January 4th.  KAUS News spoke with Mower County Auditor/Treasurer Scott Felten, who talked about when the special election will be held, and when the filing period for the position will take place…

Interested candidates to fill the vacancy can file their Affidavits of Candidacy and pay the $50 filing fee at the Auditor/Treasurer’s Office in the Mower County Government Center at 201 1st St. NE in Austin.  Candidates must reside in District 1, which includes the townships of Lansing, Red Rock, Udolpho and Waltham, and also the cities of Brownsdale, Mapleview, Waltham and the 1st Ward, 1st Precinct of the city of Austin.  Only voters living in Commission District 1 will vote in the special election.  Felten went on to state that the board chose not to appoint anyone to complete  the current term, or to fill the vacancy during the new term until the special election winner takes office.
