The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported that construction on the westbound Interstate 90 Oakland Woods rest area will be completed and re-opened today (Tuesday).

Oakland Woods, which is east of Albert Lea, was closed for expansion of parking and repaving work. The nearby Hayward rest area on eastbound Interstate 90 is still closed for repaving, sidewalk and ADA work and is expected to re-open in 2020.

Similar work on two more rest areas on Interstate 35 will start in 2020. Those rest areas are Heath Creek for northbound Interstate 35 and Straight River for southbound Interstate 35.

Overall, the construction contract for the four projects is $8.9 million.
