Minnesota Senate approves Tobacco 21 bill

A bill raising the statewide tobacco sale age from 18 to 21 was passed by the state Senate last week on a 43-21 vote.  District 27 Senator Dan Sparks, DFL’er from Austin spoke with KAUS who stated that the bill will align state policy with federal policy, and he also cited the grassroots effort locally that helped to lead the City of Austin to become one of the 75 communities around the state to adopt a Tobacco 21 policy earlier…

The bill updates state tobacco definitions to include all the latest tobacco products, compliance checks and penalties to follow the federal Tobacco 21 law.  The bill passed in the state House earlier last week, and was sent on to Governor Tim Walz for his signature.
