MDH reports 262 additional COVID-19 cases in Mower County Tuesday for cumulative total of 8,720

Mower County logged 8,389 confirmed and 331 probable COVID-19 cases Tuesday for a cumulative total of 8,720 since the onset of the pandemic, a spike of 262 from Monday, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Minnesota Department of Health.  Pam Kellogg, Division Manager with Mower County Health and Human Services reported that there are approximately 450 active cases in the county, but she added that the actual number could be much higher due to home testing and cases not being reported to the Minnesota Department of Health.  Kellogg also noted that the omicron variant of the virus is now the dominant strain in the county.

Olmsted County recorded 27,729 cumulative cases Tuesday, a spike of 1,223 from Monday, Steele County reported 7,915 cumulative cases Tuesday, a rise of 128 from Monday and Freeborn County confirmed 6,766 cumulative COVID-19 cases Tuesday, up 127 from Monday.  Dodge County now has 4,206 cumulative cases, an increase of 88 from Monday and Fillmore County recorded 3,629 cumulative COVID-19 cases Tuesday, up 70 from Monday.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported that 29,487 positive COVID-19 tests were recorded in the state Tuesday for a cumulative total of 1,082,396, and they added that 28 additional COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the state from Monday to Tuesday for a cumulative total of 10,838 since the onset of the pandemic.  A total of 52,562 COVID-19 patients in Minnesota have required hospitalization since the start of the pandemic, and 10,186 of those patients have required treatment in intensive care units.
