Area families and school districts are weighing difficult decisions on whether to return to school in person, online or a combination of both during the COVID-19 pandemic.  KAUS News spoke with Dr. Angela Mattke, a pediatrician with Mayo Clinic Children’s Center who stated that one of the most important thing parents can do is to prepare their children for what to expect and how things will be different during the new school year, and to teach them how to keep themselves and others safe….

Mattke went on to state that it will be important for parents and children to perform symptom self-checks and stay home if they’re sick…

Mattke stated that the COVID-19 virus will definitely make this school year a challenge…

Mattke went on to state that when possible, follow safe social distancing of at least 6 feet, even when wearing a mask to limit the spread of respiratory droplets, wash your hands with soap and water, or apply and use hand sanitizer frequently and disinfect surfaces routinely and immediately if they become visibly soiled, plus items frequently touched such as light switches, door handles, faucets and keyboards.
