Lyle/Pacelli softball uses huge first inning to down Schaeffer Academy 17-1 in 3 1/2 innings

After a layoff of eight days due to the weather, the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics softball team was back in action Tuesday afternoon at Todd Park in Austin versus the Schaeffer Academy Lions in a Southeast Conference matchup, and it was LP’s offense erupting for 14 runs in the first inning on their way to a 17-1 win in 3 1/2 innings.

The Athletics scored the 17 runs with the benefit of only six hits, with two of them coming from Hailee Schaefer, who was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, pitcher Avari Drennan helped her own cause in a big way by going 1 for 2 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs, Sarah Douglas was 1 for 2 with a double, two runs scored, two more knocked in, plus she drew one of 10 walks surrendered by Schaeffer Academey’s pitching staff, and she stole one of four bases for Lyle/Pacelli in the game, Lisandra Ortiz went 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored, Alana Rogne was also 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored and Lilly VaDeer was 0 for 1, but drew two walks, she was also hit by a pitch and scored three runs for the Athletics in the win.

Avari Drennan was strong in the circle for LP as she gave up only one run on four hits, she struck out seven and walked only one in four innings pitched to earn the win for the Athletics, who are now 2-1 on the season.

Lyle/Pacelli returns to action at Todd Park on Friday versus Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons in a Southeast Conference game, with first pitch at 4:30.
