Lyle/Pacelli baseball team takes two from Houston in Southeast Conference action Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team was at home Tuesday for the completion of a Southeast Conference matchup with the Houston Hurricanes that had been suspended because of rain in Houston on April 5th, and also for the regularly scheduled game between the two squads to follow, and it was the Athletics rolling to a pair of wins with a 20-6, 6-inning victory in the suspended game, and a 15-5, 6-inning win in game two.

In the first game, which had been suspended after 2 1/2 innings in Houston on April 5th because of rain, LP trailed 6-3 before storming back with two in the third and a 14-run blitzkrieg in the fourth, plus one in the fifth on their way to the win.  Hunter VaDeer helped to key an 11-hit attack by going 3 for 3 with a triple, a RBI and four runs scored, leadoff hitter Landon Meyer was 3 for 4 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored, Mac Nelson went 1 for 3 with a double and three runs scored, Jake Truckenmiller picked up three RBI’s and three runs scored without the benefit of a hit, Dane Schara went 0 for 1, but he scored a run and knocked in two more, Trey Anderson was 1 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored, Blake Klingfus went 1 for 2 with a run knocked in and three more scored, Jack Klingfus was 1 for 2 with two RBI’s and a run scored and Logyn Brooks went 1 for 3 at the plate with two RBI’s and a run scored.

Jack Klingfus earned the win on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli as he pitched the last four innings and gave up no runs and only one hit, striking out one and walking none in a game that featured 10 stolen bases for the Athletics, and also six LP batters being hit by a pitch, including Dane Schara twice.

In the second game, Lyle/Pacelli again utilized a big inning to blow the game wide open, this time a 9-run bottom of the 2nd on their way to the 15-5 win.

The Athletics added three in the first, one in the fourth and two in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.  Offensively for LP, Hunter VaDeer went 1 for 4 with a double, four RBI’s and two runs scored, Jake Truckenmiller had two of LP’s hits in four official trips to the plate, one of them a double with a RBI and a run scored, Isaac Nelson went 2 for 2 in the No. 9 spot in the order with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI, Landon Meyer went 1 for 3 with a RBI and two runs scored, Mac Nelson was a perfect 1 for 1 with two runs scored, Logyn Brooks went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored and Blake Klingfus was 1 for 2 with three runs scored and another knocked in as the Athletics were aided by nine walks issued by the Houston pitching staff and four Hurricane errors in the field.

Jack Klingfus earned another win on the mound in Game 2 for Lyle/Pacelli as he went the first 2 and 2/3rds and gave up two runs, one earned on three hits, striking out two and walking one.

With the pair of wins, the Athletics are now 6-1 in the Southeast Conference and 6-2 overall on the season.  Lyle/Pacelli returns to action Thursday at Marcusen Park versus Mabel-Canton, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
