Lyle/Pacelli baseball falls to Randolph Tuesday 11-2

It was a matchup of state-ranked teams in Class A baseball in Randolph Tuesday as the No. 10 ranked Lyle/Pacelli Athletics traveled to Randolph to meet the No. 5 ranked Rockets, and Nathan Weckop struck out 10 and was 3 for 3 at the plate with four RBI’s and two runs scored as Randolph completed a regular season sweep of the Athletics 11-2.

Lyle/Pacelli had a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third when the Rockets tallied three in their half of the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth on their way to the win.  Randolph tallied the 11 runs on nine hits, they committeed two errors and left nine men on base, while the Athletics scored the two runs on four hits, they committed five errors and left six on base.

Zach Bollingberg accounted for all of Lyle/Pacelli’s runs at the plate by going 1 for 4 with a two-run homer, and Sam Nelsen, Jake Truckenmiller and Hunter VaDeer accounted for the other LP hits in the game.  Cole Walter pitched the first four innings for the Athletics and was tagged with the loss as he gave six runs, two earned on six hits, striking out seven and walking one.  Jed Nelson pitched the last two innings for Lyle/Pacelli and gave up five runs, all earned on three hits, walking five and striking out one.

The Athletics had a five-game winning streak snapped with the loss, and they now sit at 14-2 on the season.  Things get no easier for Lyle/Pacelli as the Athletics travel to Hayfield for their next game Friday versus the Vikings, the No. 1 team in the last Class A poll.  First pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.
