Lyle/Pacelli Athletics football team wins second in a row 38-16 versus Southland Friday night

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics football team was on the road in Adams looking for win number two in a row Friday night versus the Southland Rebels in a District 9 Southeast matchup, and running back Trey Anderson had a huge game with 30 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns, plus he caught another touchdown on a pass from quarterback Jake Truckenmiller to help lead the Athletics to a 38-16 win.

Lyle/Pacelli jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run from Hunter Bauer, and a 2-point conversion run from Truckenmiller, and they made the score 16-0 early in the second quarter when Truckenmiller dashed 56 yards for a touchdown, and he was then able to find Mac Nelson with the 2-point conversion pass.  An 81-yard kickoff return for a Southland touchdown on the ensuing kickoff cut the LP lead to 16-8 after the 2-point conversion run, but the Athletics rallied back on the ensuing drive, and with 7;58 left in the first half, a 29-yard touchdown run from Anderson, and a 2-point conversion pass from Truckenmiller to Nelson put LP back up by two scores at 24-8.  Lyle/Pacelli then tallied a big score late in the half to widen their lead as with :52 seconds to go before the half, Truckenmiller fired a 30-yard touchdown pass to Anderson, and his 2-point conversion pass to David Christianson gave the Athletics a 32-8 lead at the halftime break.

Neither team was able to dent the scoreboard in the third quarter, but in the fourth stanza, a 31-yard touchdown run from Anderson gave Lyle/Pacelli at 38-8 lead, and a touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass for the Rebels later in the quarter accounted for the 38-16 final.

Lyle/Pacelli rolled up 365 yards of total offense, with 58 through the air, and 307 on the ground.  As they did in their win last week over Cedar Mountain, the Athletics won the time of possession battle 29:53 to 17:57, and in passing, Truckenmiller wound up going 3 for 7 for 58 yards and a touchdown, plus he carried the ball five times for 72 yards and another score.  Hunter Bauer carried the ball 13 times for 34 yards and a touchdown, and Anderson also led LP in receiving with two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.  Hunter Bauer had one catch for 19 yards, and Christianson led Lyle/Pacelli in tackles with eight solos and two assists for a total of 10.

With the win, the Athletics are now 2-2 on the season, and they are back in action at home in Lyle next Friday night versus Houston, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
