Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team opens 2023-2024 season with 74-32 win over Grand Meadow

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team, coming off a 23-win season and a Southeast Conference West Division championship in 2022-2023 opened a new season at All Saints Arena at Pacelli Catholic Schools in Austin Thursday evening versus conference foe Grand Meadow, and it was the Athletics rolling to a 74-32 win.

With the game tied at 3 in the early going, the Athletics proceeded to go on a 10-1 run to take a 13-4 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.  After the Superlarks countered with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the LP lead to 13-10, the Athletics countered with a 23-10 run to take a 36-20 lead late in the first half.  With the score 36-23 at the half, LP then broke the game open by starting the second half on an 18-2 run to make the score 52-25 on their way to the win.

Chase Bauer led three Athletics in double figures in scoring Thursday evening with 19 points, seven rebounds, one assist and four steals, Marshall Burma drained six of LP’s 12 3-pointers in the game on his way to 18 points, plus he added three rebounds, one assist and one steal, Dylan Christianson tallied a double-double with 12 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, one assist and one block, Landon Meyer and Jacob Nelsen each scored eight points, with Meyer adding six rebounds, a team-high four assists and one steal, and Nelsen pulled in four rebounds, dished out three assists and tallied one steal, Andrew Fredrick scored six points Thursday night, plus he pulled in seven rebounds, dished out one assist and added two steals, Leland Hicks drained three free throws for three points, plus he chipped in three rebounds and one assist, and Joseph Schulte tallied two points in the win.  For Grand Meadow, Carter Glynn led the Larks in scoring Thursday night with 18 points, plus he pulled in seven rebounds, Graham Eastlee tallied four points, Cohen Kraft and Tyler Reid each scored three points, and Logan Grafe, Sawyer Hanenberger, Logan Bachman and Malachi Young all added one point apiece in the loss.

With the win, Lyle/Pacelli opens the season at 1-0, and the Athletics will be back in action at All Saints Arena next Monday evening versus Blooming Prairie in a non-conference matchup.  You’ll hear the game on AM 1480 KAUS, with the pre-game show getting underway at 7:00 p.m., with tip-off at 7:15 p.m.  With the loss, Grand Meadow is 0-1, and the Superlarks will play their home opener Tuesday, December 5th versus Southland, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m. that evening.
