Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team rolls by Spring Grove 17-1 in five innings Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team, the No. 5 team in the state in the latest Class A rankings was on the road Tuesday for a Southeast Conference tilt against Spring Grove, and the Athletics left little doubt as to the outcome of the game early on as they erupted for 14 first inning runs in a 17-1, five-inning victory.

Sam Nelsen led LP’s 12-hit attack by going 3 for 5 with three RBI’s and three runs scored, Cole Walter was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot, Jayden Lewis was 2 for 3 with three runs knocked in and two runs scored, Landon Meyer went 2 for 4 with four RBI’s to lead the club in that category, plus he also scored a run, Zach Bollingberg was 1 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored, Jed Nelson went 1 for 2 for the Athletics with two RBI’s and two runs scored and Blake Klingfus was 1 for 2 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Lyle Pacelli added two runs in the second and one in the third, and they were aided by nine Spring Grove walks and three errors.

Jed Nelson got the start on the mound for LP and earned the win as he pitched the first four innings and gave up the one Lions run on four hits, striking out two and walking two.  Cole Walter struck out the side in the fifth inning to finish off the win for the Athletics.

Lyle/Pacelli now stands at 11-1 on the season overall and 10-1 in the Southeast Conference, and the Athletics are back in action at Marcusen Park Friday afternoon versus a tough Southland squad, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
