Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team erupts for a total of 42 runs and 26 hits in doubleheader sweep of Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team continued a busy week of play at Marcusen Park Tuesday as they played host to the Wolverines of Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger in a Southeast Conference doubleheader, and in Game 1, the Athletics offense erupted for 33 runs and 21 hits in a 33-4 rout, and in Game 2, the Athletics fell behind 6-0 before rallying with nine runs in the last three innings to win 9-6.

In Game 1, Lyle/Pacelli scored early and often off of Wolverine pitchers Hunter Adams and Chevy Wallin, as the Athletics plated seven runs in the bottom of the first, nine in the second, six in the third and 11 more in the fourth.  Ten Lyle/Pacelli hitters belted out at least one hit, as centerfielder Hunter VaDeer had a massive game by going 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, five RBI’s and six more runs scored, Mac Nelson was 2 for 4 with four RBI’s and five runs scored, Landon Meyer went 1 for 3 with three runs knocked in and four more scored, Isaac Nelsen had a huge game with four hits in five official plate appearances, three RBI’s and three runs scored, cleanup hitter Jake Truckenmiller went 2 for 4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Dane Schara was 2 for 3 from the plate with two RBI’s and three runs scored, Dylan Regenscheid went 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Logyn Brooks and Landon Nemitz both went 1 for 2 with an RBI, with Brooks scoring a pair of runs and Nemitz one, Jack Klingfus went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Trey Anderson scored three runs in the rout.

Mac Nelson threw the first 2.67 innings and gave up one run, which was earned, on three hits, striking out three and walking one, and he then gave way to Landon Meyer, who threw the last 2.33 innings and was credited with the win, as he gave up three runs, two earned, on one hit, striking out three and walking three.

In Game 2 of the doubleheader, the Athletics fell behind 6-0 as GE/AC, who was the home team in the second game scored three runs in the bottom of the first, one in the third, and two in the fourth.  Wolverines pitcher Kole Nelson, who struck out 10 LP hitters in the game held the Athletics off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth when LP struck for five runs to cut the deficit to 6-5.  Jake Truckenmiller, who was the second pitcher of the game for the Athletics held GE/AC scoreless in the bottom half of the inning while LP’s offense added another run in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 7-5.  Hunter VaDeer then took the mound and blanked the Wolverines over the last two innings, while Lyle/Pacelli’s offense added three big runs in the top of the seventh to help seal the victory.

Offensively for the Athletics, Mac Nelson had another big game by going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Landon Meyer went 1 for 4 out of the leadoff spot with two RBI’s and a run scored, Isaac Nelsen was 1 for 3 with a run knocked in, Logyn Brooks went 1 for 1 with two runs scored, Hunter VaDeer scored a pair of runs, and Dane Schara and Trey Anderson scored a run apiece in the comeback win.

Landon Meyer pitched the first two innings for Lyle/Pacelli and gave up three runs, none earned, on four hits, striking out three and walking one.  Jake Truckenmiller then came in for the third inning and pitched three innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits, striking out four and walking four, and Hunter VaDeer was credited with the win as he pitched the last two innings, giving up no runs and no hits, striking out six and walking two.

With the doubleheader sweep, Lyle/Pacelli is now 13-1 overall on the season, and 10-1 in the Southeast Conference, and the Athletics extremely hectic week continues today (Wednesday) as they play host to Wabasha/Kellogg in a non-conference game postponed from Saturday due to the weather, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
