Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team blanks Houston 2-0 Tuesday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team continued a busy week Tuesday as they played host to the Houston Hurricanes in a Southeast Conference game at Marcusen Park, and in the second meeting of the season between the two teams, the Athletics used strong pitching from starter Jake Truckenmiller, plus just enough offense to blank the Hurricanes for the second time this season, this time by a score of 2-0.

Lyle/Pacelli pushed across single runs in the third and sixth innings, both unearned, and that was enough for Truckenmiller, who gave up no runs on five hits in seven innings of work, striking out 11 and walking one.  Houston’s Connor Porter also pitched well for the Hurricanes as he gave up the two Athletics runs, both unearned, on four hits, striking out four and walking one.  Houston had chances to score in the game, but Truckenmiller and the LP defense stranded 12 Hurricane runners on base, while Lyle/Pacelli left six men on for the game.

Offensively for Lyle/Pacelli, both Landon Meyer and Isaac Nelsen were 1 for 3 with a run scored, with Nelsen’s hit being a double, Mac Nelson was also 1 for 3, and catcher Logyn Brooks went 1 for 2.

With the win, Lyle/Pacelli is now 7-0 on the season, and 6-0 in the Southeast Conference.  The Athletics will resume a stretch of four games in five days Thursday in Adams against Southland, with first pitch from the Adams Athletic Complex at 4:30 p.m.
