Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball rallies to defeat St. Clair 8-5

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team was on the road in St. Clair Monday looking for win number five in a row in a non-conference matchup with the Cyclones, and it was the Athletics rallying back from a 5-1 deficit with a big top half of the fourth inning to win 8-5.

St. Clair led 4-0 at the end of one inning when LP got on the board with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd to cut the Cyclone’s lead to 4-1.  St. Clair added another run in the bottom of the 3rd for the 5-1 lead before the Athletics, who have had a penchant for big innings during their current winning streak came up with another one as they tallied six runs in the top of the 4th to take a lead they would not relinquish at 7-5.  Lyle/Pacelli added an insurance run in the top of the 7th for the 8-5 victory.

Hunter VaDeer continued to swing a hot bat as of late for LP Monday as he went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored, Jake Truckenmiller was 2 for 3 with a run scored, leadoff hitter Landon Meyer went 1 for 5 for the Athletics with a run knocked in and another scored, Mac Nelson was 1 for 4 with a run scored, Isaac Nelsen went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Jack Klingfus was also 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored out of the No. 9 spot in the batting order and Blake Klingfus was 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s as the Athletics totaled 10 hits for the game, and they also used four Cyclone errors to score five unearned runs.

Dane Schara went the distance on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli for the win as he gave up the five St. Clair runs, one earned, on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.

With the win, the Athletics raise their record to 12-4 on the season, and they are right back into action today (Tuesday) versus Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons in a Southeast Conference matchup, with first pitch in Glenville at 4:30 p.m.
