Local Republican legislator gives her view on passage of $107 million bill for summer school programs

The Minnesota House last week passed a 107-million-dollar funding bill for summer school programs. KAUS News spoke with State District 27A Peggy Bennett, a Republican from Albert Lea who stated that she voted against the bill due to, in her view, micromanaging of school districts by making them apply for various grants with funds to be spent in various ways, and also $1 million of the total earmarked for the Minnesota Department of Education…

Democratic supporters of the bill stated that it invests in students, families and communities who are hardest hit.  House Republicans have stated that the bill is equitable probably only for the Minneapolis school district, which gets 60 dollars per pupil, and they added that, in their view, the bill benefits state bureaucrats, not kids.
