LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals football team falls to Spring Grove 27-20 in Section 1 9-player semi-finals Saturday

The LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals football team, the No. 2 seed in the Section 1 9-Player tournament played host to the No. 3 seeded Spring Grove Lions, state runners-up a season ago in the tournament semi-finals on a wind and snow-swept Saturday afternoon, and the performance of Lions quarterback Jaxon Strinmoen proved to be the difference in the contest, as he threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, a 50-yard dash to the end zone late in the 4th quarter to lead to Lions to a 27-20 victory.
Junior quarterback Camden Hungerholt carried the ball 41 times for the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon for 237 yards and three touchdowns, and he was 1 for 9 passing for 53 yards and two interceptions. Ryder Stern tallied one catch for 53 yards, as LeRoy/Ostrander’s season comes to an end with a record of 8-2. With the win, the Lions are now 8-2 on the season, and they will play unbeaten and state-ranked Kingsland for the Section 1 9-Player title Friday, November 3rd at 7 p.m. at a site yet to be determined. The top-seeded Knights downed No. 4 seed Houston 45-28 in Spring Valley Saturday afternoon.
