In Southeast Conference boys basketball action you heard Friday night on AM 1480 KAUS, the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals were looking for win number two in a row against the visiting Lyle/Pacelli Athletics, and in a game played in front of a big crowd, a crucial 18-3 second half run enabled the Cardinals to pull away for a 71-58 victory.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 16-4 lead to start the game before Lyle/Pacelli rallied back with an 8-0 run of their own to trim the deficit to four at 16-12.  A 3-pointer from LP’s Isaac Nelsen, one of 11 the Athletics would tally for the game with 5:37 left in the half tied the score at 23-23, and another 3-pointer from Marshall Burma a short time later gave the Athletics what would turn out to be their biggest lead of the game at three points at 26-23.  The Cardinals answered with a 7-0 run to end the half to take a 32-28 lead into the locker room at the halftime break, and with the score 37-35 in the second half, the scoring and defense of Camden and Reid Hungerholt helped to spark the 18-3 run that opened up a 56-38 lead.  The Cardinals would go on to push their lead to as large as 21 points down the stretch on their way to the win.
