Lansing man pleads guilty to criminal vehicular homicide charge in Mower County District Court

A Lansing man involved in a two-vehicle accident near Austin in May of 2019 that took the life of an Austin man is pleading guilty in Mower County District Court.

33-year old Christopher Robert Stewart pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of criminal vehicular homicide for the May 9th , 2019 accident that killed 89-year old William Regner of Austin.

Authorities reported that Stewart crashed into the vehicle driven by Regner at the intersection of County Roads 28 and 29. Law enforcement stated that Regner was dead when they arrived at the scene. Court documents state marijuana was found in Stewart’s vehicle and a test of Stewart’s blood found amphetamine, methamphetamine, and THC in his system.  

Stewart’s trial had been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic but had been scheduled to begin on July 12. He is now set to be sentenced in Mower County District Court on October 8th.
