Jobs and resources available for those who have filed for unemployment in Mower County due to the COVID-19 pandemic

With many businesses in Minnesota closing and laying off employees because of the coronavirus, the number of individuals applying for unemployment has risen.

According to data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, 1,952 Mower County workers have applied for unemployment since March 15th. KAUS News spoke with Mike Postma, career planner and employment outreach specialist for Workforce Development, Inc. in Austin who stated that there are jobs available in the Austin area….

For those who have less hours or have lost their job because of COVID-19, Postma stated that they should definitely apply for unemployment insurance at uimn.org….

Postma went on to state that for the first time, independent contractors and small business owners will be eligible for unemployment benefits…

Postma stated that for those seeking more information, his office is taking calls at (507) 433-0055 and he added that there are several online sources for job searching, including minnesotaworks.net and indeed.com., and he stated that his office can still help virtually with resumes and those that are looking to make a career change.
